There aren't any controls on the radio for it, but I guess they just threw it in there for some reason. If you want a simple switch on the fro...

I was looking at the picture of the pcb, and schematics. It does look like the ELK 2030 mod can be done to this radio the same as the 494,959. I am I right on this? Thank you for your time.

Cobra 29 ltd receive problem

So I replaced the on/off squelch pot with a new one. It does the same thing. I notice the mic socket is a little worn, and I will also change that out. ...

Re: Cobra 29 Spike diode, should I jump D8.
Here here!!Rick wrote:D8 is RF spike diode and should be left well alone. By jumping across the diode, you would gain about 0.7 of volt.
I know some site tell you remove it but the person who wrote such an article had very little knowledge and it is best to stay away from such sites.

I done the ERF 2030 mod, and when I powered it up it killed the power. I know I ended up grounding a solder trace, and I uninstalled the kit. I need to know where, and what I need to replace to get power back to the board. Thank you.

On the directions it says replace r-285 with 100 ohm resistor, but looking at the resistor chart for the PCB there is not a r-285. I was looking at the schematics, and it appears to be r-255. Am I right on this?
