Re: Fully banding a midland alan 48 excel multi
Fully "banding" the unit requires some simple soldering knowledge. You only need to actually install a 4 position DIP switch and solder in a 4 wire ribbon cable to the PLL, the DIP switches have 2 positions which then gives you many channeling options with the PLL, the end result is about ...

If it's a newer PC68 you can forget about the Cap/Resistor mod, you need the transistor version of the swing kit for it to work

Power Mic Problems
The Super Star microphones are great and I have used them for years, hard to find now, but they are made by Aries these days. The mics are naturally "hot" and the simple trick is to adjust the microphone the way you want it and then back off the mic gain on the radio until it stops squeali...

Yes, I do...
All you have to do is add in a small momentary push button switch across the middle and second longest leg of the LED, when you press the button, this will recycle the LEDs pattern. Also, by continuously pressing the button, you can scroll through and select a particular color that will stay lite, i...

Re: tx meter hardly oves
OK, and now for the solution to the problem before you beat yourself looking at these replies.... Remove the top cover from the radio, get a super small eyeglass repair screwdriver and gently turn the screw on top of the meter until the needle swings freely again. Tah-Dah... 30 years later and this ...

Re: Have an idea for my Uniden 510.
You forgot: Doorstop I have a Uniden 510 Pro XL. The normal tweak says to replace the 2.7ohm resistor in front of the final, with a .47ohm. Fine and dandy I can understand that. However........What if I replaced the stock C2166 final with a C1969 final? Would the radio even function? I bet there wou...

I have to tell you this from experience... Unlocking the clarifier in any side band unit is just not a good thing to do.

Echo Board with no Externat Knobs ?
I have those Bandit boards here in stock. They are the same exact boards you are talking about with the clip on dual control pots. I love these boards due their small compact size and three wire install, and they sound just as great as any other echo board out there. Send me an email and I'll hook y...

Cobra 29LTD CLASSIC with ERF- 2030 after modification
You know, I have to be honest here. I have a lot of experience with these ERF2030 (irf520) kits, been installing these things for years, I do it by request only, I would never try to "sell" anyone on this gimmick, but, in all honesty and things learned from my experience... this 2030 MosFe...

Hi guys thought i would chime in on this discussion. heres my 5 cents worth of information. Bipolars have a lower gain than mosfets that is not new news to anybody. That is a plus compaired to bipolars. I will use either one but my favorite is the mosfet because you do get more power out of it comp...

Well, first of all, I don't know that much about HAM radio, and don't really care to. Secondly, I'm sorry if I have blown someones cover, but, what the heck, I know what I know and that's a lot compared to what some people want others to think. I also have plenty of a life, and I have plenty of usef...

The Galaxy DX929 DX939 DX949 DX959 DX979 use them. Texas Ranger uses them in all their CB models. You just said it yourself. I guess I just made my point, since you went directly to export boards, and not the non-export Cobra / Uniden boards, and this is the reason why I stated the fact that the Mo...

Well, the main issue here is, MosFets are NOT designed for use in standard CB radios, the list of excuses why it didn't work can go on and on until the next ice age comes around, but, as long as the tech got paid for what he did, oh well right, I hear that a lot, and I see a lot of cobra units on eb...

How about you send me one of your radios to test on MY meters. I have my meters recalibrated every 4 months by their makers, regardless if I feel they need it or not. Care to take that challenge? This would not be the first... or tenth time I've made this offer to someone in the past 30 years, so......

How about using the RF Gain control for the Variable version of Talk Back, it's a lot slicker when you have an echo mic.
