Re: Very Quite audio, TR396FCC
mate , i've had problems like this on an 858 chassis. Check the electrolitics ( caps ) feeding the input of the audio chip. I had one problem where the cap was open curcuit.
Infact , just replace the caps around the audio amp.
Hope it works for you.

perhaps you might want to "juggle" the vco can. Slightly tune it on the band that you're having problems with.

Hello Guys. As above , what does work is... Receive needle moves. Does TX with Mod on SSB & AM. If I inject a signal around the audio chip you can hear it. If I place a finger around chip there IS a hum. Squelch works ( you can hear it faintly going off and on via the speaker ). PA works. The b...

Hi, did you manage to sort out the problem? I"ve got the same thing here - the radio is near spotless and I'd like to get it going. RX is fine after a tune up and realignment of PLL to lock it up. TX works, OK on AM full carier, but low mod almost non existant. SSB is working, but again very l...

Hi matey...try this... The AM regulator 2SC1419 is WEAK. UNSOLDER it and toss it in the trash. Replace it with a GE-66, ECG-152 or a NTE-152. Relay buzzes on SSB, no am transmit, lights go dim, or the fuse pops sometimes? Replace C179 ( a 2.2uF 25v tantalum cap located near finals) with a standard 2...

Go to this website and click on ranger / or superstar etc and follow the cuircut layout.

Johnson Viking 352D NO TX & FAINT RX ( very faint )
Argg !!! The original problem with this was NO TX NO RX. I replaced the PLL chip. Now I still have no tx ( relay clicks over etc ) and very very faint RX. The PLL is working as i can select channels. If I turn the volume up and inject a signal ( local signal ) the RX will come up ever so slightly. A...
