Beep change on pcma002f board

Post by Damselfly »

Hi. I've just picked up an old mustang 1000 that uses the same board as the Amstrad 901, etc. Does anybody know how to turn the standard roger beep into a peewit type beep. I did it years ago, but can't remember how i went about it. All help appreciated. Cheers.

Hi find transistor 2sa608 around those trace's u can experiment with capacitors to give longer or shorter delays add a cap then use another or two for the desired affects- back in the day a horse affect can be done and even a echo of about 1.5 seconds in doing these mods you may overload 2sa608 by a direct short make sure you can replace q21 if this is the case. tant beads work well! (be aware too much delay will have a delayed affect to the speakers audio) supress caps 00.1 for the echo but to get the echo you have to find the horse affect 1st? mods played with over 15 years ago time for you to experiment as i dont have any amstrads etc. best of luck..ps find the resistor around q21 to beef up the beep audio!. again use a cap over it. a peewit sound you will find if you try these mods..

Hi warhorse, thanks for your input mate. I've changed c116 to a 47uf cap(the stock capacitor was 10uf) and it's made the beep longer but i can't change the effect. There's a circuit diagram/schematic on cb tricks here - http://www.cbtricks.com/radios/amstrad/cb901/index.htm . Could you help me more specifically please, as you seem to know your stuff? I've got an abundance of components and decent soldering skills so there's no probs there. Thanks again. Damian.

The values you are using are way to large, Replace the orig cap you took out. use say 4.7uf as a starter on the back of the circuit tracks around q21 is about 6 tracks listen to the beep via a reciever etc'' once you find an extended pee wit sound solder into place then use another to extend that sound or shorten it using a variety of caps(electrolytic or axal) then play some more to get that sound you want to use - use switches for those tones. ktones 5tones become fun using this method, slow that 5tone to 5minuets plus for an annoying beep''? beep ic can blow ie 4093-4017, bc182. cost very little to replace about a quid'' you can use any 2sa for q21 doesnt have to be 2sa608 if it gets zapped. smile - its all for the fun''of it. you know that! ps - the track you start from, from memory is a upside down .c. make sure the polarity is correct if placed to 0.volts. raid that transistor radio for those caps!.
