are galaxys more prone to failing
i have problems out of all galaxys i own mirage-88 no audio,dx-44 no audio,,dx-66 cuts in and out and freq.meter goes wild i,ve had a old cobra 148 gtl probally 20 years old and still works great are the galaxys cheaply made only galaxy i,ve never had a problem with is my galaxy saturn base i,ve had for years only thing i dont like about it is the cheap echo board it came with and no talkback have thought about adding a connexx board to the saturn but how do you add talkback to this basestation
i think yer money is better spent when you start breaking 100 bucks on a cobra of any kind and adding bells and whistles to get what comes stock inside a "Big Radio" to just get the big radio in the first place. i see drivers all the time taking their 100 dollar 29ltd and dumping in another 100 to get an echo board, upgraded final and a nice blue light or two, plus that resistor across the grounds of the pa/ext spkr for talkback... now they got 200 plus into the radio, its still a cobra and you could have gotten a connex for not alot more (new). I think the single final models start around 189.
Most of these radios are based on just a few pcb's. connex, general lee, mirage, galaxy, ranger, texas ranger, etc etc etc. many from the same manufacturer (RCI) And most start with dual finals. and the way they are set up you can exceed 60 watts peak without much engineering at all. In the end, you got a Big radio that you will be able to resell for a decent price and enjoy for a good while, or ya got a cobra... ya think you can turn a profit on a used cobra with no warrantee and modifcation cost? if you bought it used for cheap and did all the mods yourself, maybe, if you dont count your time.
thats my 2 cents
