hey ramblin man or rick on the dx-66 acting crazy i put in a new c-199 cap today,resoldered the crystal you said too and its still doing the same thing humming and the freq counter going wild but why does it quit for awhile when you turn it on and off and back on again

hey tim,have you checked for poor solder connections.take top cover off,and find you a plastic scratch tool,and with it powered up,start scratching around on the solder side of the board,and see if it starts cutting out.then just slightly scratch around and bump around going from one solder joint to another until you find the bad connection,or area of the bad connection.then resolder them.id concentrat around the pll and vco area of the board.try this and see if you get anywhere.and let me know back..........ramblinman

hey tim,i got one question for you does your radio have a switch,to turn freq. counter on and off??? if so turn it off,and see if this cures the problem.if so i can tell you a remedy,for the problem.if not it also could be something shorting,around the freq.counter area.check for something,shorting and or being to close to the freq.board than it should be...........ramblinman

thank you ramblin man and mr.rick the 66 is working like brand new now and walking the dog and spitting fire when i first hooked it up in my shop to my power supply it starting cutting out like before but i was rubbing my finger around the board and suddennly it quit so i left it on a few hours and it worked fine so i put it back in my truck and was tinkering with the echo and somebody hollared back at me turns out they were in south carolina and could hear me fine barefooted and i,ve had not a bit of problems since it seems to be working great now i even talked to somebody in georgia today thanksssssssssss ramblin man and rick that made my day...now i,m gonna start working on my 44 thanks guys
