Hi,
recently i bought a george with same problem.
"scanning" without pushing the "scan button" is caused in most cases by defective CPU.
The guy owned it befor, tried to do the "resistor mod".

Did you try to solder the Resistor near the CPU, to get the rig into export modus?
Maybe you are not careful when soldering, and one of the traces near the cpu are damaged.
I try to fix this and it works so far, that the rig did not "scan" anymore. But befor and after fixing there is no RX and TX, although the LCD is indicating, so the CPU is apparently damaged.

So it looks in my "bought used" george after i got it.

Replacing the CPU in Germany costs around 70,- Euro.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM..

MAYBE I'LL JUST PUT IT BACK IN THE CUPBOARD.

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.
