What mods to do or not to do.

Post by Gear_Jammer »

I drive semi and have a Cobra 29. Astitac mic Peaked and tuned, Wilson 2000 antenna SWR 1.1 1.4

Just picked up a palomar 200.

So I've got to down the wattage. I'm thinking 3w dk

Please tell me what you think I should do.

You say peaked and tuned.... Was this a truck stop peak & tune? If so, then the limiter has been cipped, the coils is spread out as far as possible and VR$ is wide open.

No one takes the time any more to properly set up a radio in these places. Find a good radio man, have the "fixes" repaired... if it has a cheap cap and resistor swing kit, remove it and have the radio properly peaked and it's DK set up on the meters. With that palamoar kicker, and a PROPERLY setup radio, you will sound 100 times better than any 25 watt overmodulated hack job 29 out there!

I know a lot of people like the Cap & Resistor swing kits, I am just giving my opinion, some may agree and a ton will not. I am not trying to upset anyone who does these mods and likes em......
Good Luck and 73's
