Galaxy DX959 mod - which one to do?

Post by NightRanger3151 »

Which of these mods is the best to do on a Galaxy DX959? Or can a combination of both be done? I want it to last so I don't want the radio to get hot or anything. Any input would be appreciated.

I have done both, and honestly the first I feel is better. The ekl mod did sport a little more output, but it created much more heat and even with a 100 watt 2sb817 in it and a Ranger heat sink on the back, it dimmed when keyed even with heavy gage power cables connected to a good power supply. The changes in the first provided a stable radio with very good audio. If you cant get a 2sb817, the 80 watt will do nicely.
Leave Q39 in and just do the resistor mod. SSB sounds bad if you remove it completely. I dont reccomend the "Super Ears Mod" as it really slams the front end of receive... especially when someone nearby keys up.
8719 pll is easy to channel too, no map need with the freq counter built in!

Parts? Components?

Does anyone know where I can get the parts for this first mod?

I live in the US and Radio Shack really sucks now-a-days.

Thanks!
