SS-158EDX ECHO BOARD MOD FOR FM?

Post by silverfox »

hi folks,
does anyone know what components need changed on the blue display 158edx?
there is a mod for the old 158 but the components have been changed on the new echo board and the components seem a lot smaller.
the board no is EPTOSSB501.
i would like to enable full fm modulation or as near as while the echo is enabled.
any help would be appreciated.
the echo board is currently bypassed to enable full fm modulation.
cheers guys. :?:

If you can upload a good close up photo of the echo board, I might be able to give you a mod, since historically most of these Ranger echo boards are basically the same, but unfortunately I can't find a circuit diagram for yours at the moment.

Cheers,

Brian.

hi brian,
will try to upload photo of the board.
there is a photo of another board further down under the repair forum under muffled fm modulation on a ss-158edx, but this board is very different from mine.
the resistors on my board are much smaller and the capacitors are green instead of tan and smaller again.
i had 10k resistors delivered to mod the board as desribed on the forum but got a shock when i took the echo board off and seen the 10k,s were double the size.
the ranger website does a service manual for the 158 but cant remember if it has a circuit diagram for the echo board but i suspect if it has its for the old 158. will try and post photo over next few days.
thanks .....john.

I am the person who as drawn the diagram’s for the SS158EDX to date, I am working on diagram’s for the new SS158EDX and will put them on CBTricks when I have finished them but will not be for a wile yet.

There are 2 new type Echo boards.
The one I have is a SMT type.

Note the diagram on the Ranger site is wrong.

hi rick,
been trying to upload picture of the echo board but keep getting a general error message-cannot connect to server.
you would think ranger would have corrected this fault from the first 158s.
do you have any info on the board no that i posted earlier for a component change or removal to enable full fm modulation or where im going wrong in uploading the photo of the board?
thanks again.....john.
