Most of them are not.

If you look at the radios with factory-installed amplifiers you will find that the wiring into the linear is filtered. Also, a metal shield cover separates it from the radio's interior wiring.

This is done to keep the linear from, er, "bleeding" the radio's internal circuits and causing trouble.

The "stinger" boards and such ALL lack this kind of important feature. As a result, you're far likielier to have trouble from an add-on than with a factory-installed amplifier.

I have installed 5 of these all have been put in Cobra 29s.Along with the Stinger Board I put an Astatic echo Board in.You talk on these radios and people think its a Connex.Ive been asked several times is that a Connex. In all of them I did the 2030 mod first. All but one the dead key is set about 2 watts. With the Stinger Board turned on the dead key is about 10 watts swing is around 50 to 60 watts each one a little different.I put one together for my Grandson and the dead key is set at 5 watts radio. Stinger board dead key is 25 watts swing is 80 to 100 watts. There is no Echo Board in his radio.I can tell you this radio TALKS.In all of these I installed I put a little fan to help keep the heat down. They dont seem to heat up to bad unless you dont give them time to cool. With the fan they do OK even if your a long talker. These make a good talking radio but if your looking to DX or Watts Id go with an external amp.But again ive had good resut from them. Just my 2 cents.

I just purchased some of the pcn-60 and the 203 boards from rm italy for my radio shop. I did a trial install on one of my spare cobra 29ltd's. And like some one said rf shielding is badly needed to make them work properly along with about a 1 watt deadkey with some serious swing to get any power out of them. I am looking into making some rf seilding box for these boards. I am going to get one of the local welding shops to make me an aluminum sheild to wrap around the board. I am also going to use some rg178 to tie in to the antenna port and rf input. One thing i can say is you need to do some homework on these along with some testing if you want to sell them right. Other than that i think people will be disapointed with them. So far i am getting about 30 watts avg and 60 watts pep out of the pcn-60 board you can get more but it will overdrive the board. I can get as much as 80 PEP but it is not clean and would probably result in failure. I will post my results soon.

I have a co-worker that suckered me into installing one for him. Even though I told him I have no experience with them.

A Cobra 29 Chrome, I set the D/K @ 3 Bird and swings 9-10 (Stock Final 2078).

Put the board in and it swings 15 Bird and stays there dead keyed when you let off the mic.

Can anybody give me clues to get it right! So I can be rid of this headache.

I took it out. put the echo in and gave him his radio. I give up for now, no time to play with that thing.
