mirage 9900 freq. counter

I have a mirage 9900 that the freq. counter works fine then after a few minutes it starts to run up and down the numbers. It wont key up or recieve. If I tap on the radio it will stop and stay on freq. Then after a few minutes it starts again. I'm looking for a cold solder joint. Is there something else that goes bad that I should look for or check? Any help would be great. Thanks Bill.

It sounds like a cold solder joint around the VCO. The best think to do is just re-solder all the component around the VCO, also check the xtal.
