I was recently given a Cobra 29 NW ST and am having problems with it jumping SWRs even when I tested it on my meter.

the radio has had the speaker removed a connex board added it has been peaked and tuned also.

the former owner informed me that when he had the radio hooked up it was over modulating.

any suggestions as to what I need to do to it?

Not for sure what you mean about jumping SWRs but to fix the over modulating problem there is 3 things you can do. 1. turn dyna mic down. 2. readjust vr4 for 100% modulation if this doesnt change anything 3. check d11 to see if it has been cut if so you need to resolder it or replace it with a 1n4148 diode. hope this helps.
