I have a Cobra 200GTL DX and i have had it for about a month. I wasnt to familiar with this type of radio, so i took it to a shop to have it tuned, not sure what they did to it, but the power was better, and i think they might have done the channel mod, but i am not sure. Anyways i was talking to my friend on USB and the radio started to get hot and i lost all power. Now i cant get out unless the people are right on top of me, and my meter only shows a signal strenght of about 1, the needle barely moves. If anyone has any ideas, i would appreciate it. Thanks!

I am a new kid on the block but it sounds to me like you blew one of the outputs. Some radios have one output, some have two. I am not familiar with cobra 200. Possably a 2sc1969 output? If my puter was up to par, I would look it up for you.

I agree, it sounds like the finals went, These don't use 1969's though, they have dual 2sc-2290's if they are peaked wrong they fry easy. Many were built without any heatsink grease! (Oooppps!!!!) Cobra discontinued the 200 due to a ton of problems with these radios....

It maybe its just Q74 which as gone south, I have replaced this transistor in over 20 radios.
So just try replacing Q74 (RD16HHF1) this is a MOSFET transistor made by Mitsubishi and must be the right one.
If you get in up and running again have the output reduce to about 80 watts on SSB and 40 to 50 watts on AM and FM.
Thanks a lot!

i REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP WITH THE 200, I AM GOING TO LOOK INTO THAT. I WAS JUST IN THE DARK AND DIDNT KNOW IF ANYONE COULD HELP. I DO KNOW WHEN IT WAS MODDED, IT WAS PUSHING AROUND 150 ON SSB, SO I GUESS I WILL FIX IT AND TURN IT DOWN JUST A LITTLE. THANKS!
