Power Supply's too use with Amplifiers?

Would it be good to Have a 13.8v dc power supply with with 10 amp constant for every 100 watt of amplifer? In other word's If a had 500 watts peak I would have 50amp constant power supply. Or do I need more?

some say as a rule of thumb...go with 50% more amps than what you need...
i'm not sure if i would go that big, but i would go overkill

ive heard that too.but i know i had a 2970 completely stock
and it drew between 20-25 amps on ssb with 100 watts

I had a boomer 500 base box that I changed the 4 pills from 455's to 2290's putting out a little over 600 and it ran on its internal 35amp with no problems, it didn't have a built in ammeter, so it could have been starving for power, but I ran it for about 2 years after the upgrade before I sold it.

My buddy had a Texas Star DX500V and he ran it solo on a Pyramid PS52K power supply.
The power supply starved the amplifier.
For 100 watts of output, the amp draw is closer to 15-20 amps.

Since no amp is 100% efficient you have to add that to the formula when deciding what power supply to use.
At 13.8 volts the TS DX500V is rated at approx. 500 watts.
Like frogman said you need some headroom so 50% is a safe number and that's part of the formula as well.
To determine the proper regulated type PS for the TS DX500V use this formula.
(500w + 50%) divided by 13.8v = Power Supply Amps..
750w divided by 13.8 volts = 54.35 amps
or
500w divided by 13.8v plus 50% = same
Class "C" type amps are more efficient than Class "AB" so you can use the same formula for both and be safe.
