ERF 2030 Mod - Beating a dead horse

Post by raven666 »

I promise I will never beat this horse again.

I ordered the EKL kit and installed it in my BRAND NEW Cobra 29LTD Classic (new chassis) I get:

1. 1 watt dead key
2. 5.5 watt forward swing - 7 watt channel 1
3. Performance drops at 40 highest at 1

I installed the kit exactly like the instructions said and seemed to end up with less than I started with. I was getting 6-7 watts across the board clean with no swing mod. I for one will not do a swing mod as I feel they are vandalism.

I just need a nice clean way to finish this one so it does what it is supposed to.

Ok re checked SWR again = Replaced and re trimed the K30 whip. Now 1:1 on 19 and 1:2 on 1 and 40. Now it swings 5.5-6.5 max at any point. Staring to feel like the 2030 mod is a scam meant to suck this sucker in.

Anyone get one done for real on a newer chassis?

Don't even say drivers it has the 2SC2314 driver installed. And I have 2.7 at the gate. It jumps after key and modulation. Starts about 1. Thinking the 2030 mods is a huge pile.

When you do any modifications, you are usual on your own, unless you find a bar room tech how knows it all.

This is why I do answer many people whom asking about mods; it is not easy helping them out, as they usually do not have the right equipment to do the job in the first place.

It takes many years to gain the experience; most good Techs will not pass on information, as they get no credit for they work. You only after to look at some of the responses or the lack of them on this forum and many others forums.

Maybe it not cool to say thank you.
Rick.

I had a similar problem with a new model 29, Old models are great, pop it in , PROPERLY tune it. 35 watts clean. NO cheap capacitor kit. (Don't use em)

I played with the 2007 model for about a week, This is what I was able to get out of it....
I replaced the driver with a 2SC1957, changed the 68pf cap to a 33pf cap. Be sure to remove the slug from L14

The best I was able to get was 20~23 Watts. I am sure the board has been choked down somewhere, but I don't know where.

I have since changed to IRF520 Finals as they seem to run cooler. I have been able to get a clean 35~38 Watts out of em. No clipping or swing kits.

I finally got mine back to stock and getting ready for preacherman to put some mojo on it and make it kick the cat and walk the dog. Or vice versa. :P

I will try your mods with another newer chassis or just get an old chassis to use up these 2 kits I have that are not sellable.
