No output - final or driver?

Guys,

I've got a radio with no RF output (TX into a dummy load showed nothing on the meter - also no signal received on another radio in the same room on same frequency)

All other functions work as they should.

Am I right thinking that if the finals have gone, I should still get output from the driver (which should be picked-up by the other radio) ???

If it is the driver(s) which is it?

The radio is the Cobra 200 (Rev 3) with 2SC-2290 dual finals.

Many thanks.

I'd start with the driver, I have talked to many people that have had problems with the Cobra 200 GTL's and most of them said that the driver was the item that got replaced from Cobra when they sent in the radios for repair. If the driver is good, then you could go to the final section.

Again, though, that's what I have heard from other owners of this radio, not my own personal exerience, but it may get you started in the right direction.

The driver is you problem.the part #is RD16HHF1.The only place I could find it was at RF Parts, they are around $4.00 each. this part is located to the left of the 2290's.I would also get a new insulator that goes on the back of the transistor.

Wow - $4 for the driver, much cheaper than here in the UK, the typical price is £10 each (most of which is made up of Government tax) then shipping on top!!!

That said I'm happy to pay that, as our politicians deserve the proposed 25% pay increase (yeah right!)

I'll swap the driver & see how I get on.

Thanks for the replies Exit & Woody 8)

I might want to tell you that rf parts does have a minimum order of $25.00. Look them up on the net @ RFParts.com you will see what the minimum is.

Update!

Changed driver & I've got output!!! Zzwiiing!!! 8)

I sourced it from Chris at Mode Components (for a very reasonable £5.95 considering they were £12 at Knights)

There are other sources in the UK for these mosfets but most had min. quantity of ten pieces & min. order value etc, etc.

Happy days :D
