Curiosity about Super Star 360 FM early model

Post by Ham_International »

Hello.
Just wondering if someone can drop me some light.
I always wanted to find a Super Star 360 FM first series (Yes, the FM, not the previous AM SSB model), the one with a funny Roger Beep (like a bird), shorter than the later versions (but not as much short as 120 FM model).

Does anybody know what PCB model is? I can't reach any info on the net regarding that exact model. Further info about it is welcome.
Thanks!"

Jose.

The model you are looking for is the same as the Cobra 148GTL-DX which us a PB-010. If you are look for one I have one.

I thought that the PB-010 was the second version and the first version was the PC-893 (but I could be wrong), I do however think that the second version was the one with the bleep, the first did not have it.

There are lot of people who thing the first SS360FM had the PC-893 PCB but this is not so, I was one of the first to import the SS360FM and the Cobra 148GTL-DX in to the UK and all the SS360FM had the PB-010 board.

I the dark days of import people used to swap the front with the early Cobra 148GTL-DX with the SS360FM so they could sale them.

I must have been thinking about the Cobra not the Superstar, the early 1st 148 gtl dx and the 2nd version, that would make sense, its been a while since I seen one (15 years)

THanks for your opinions:
I've just fixed a SS 360 FM (H6 version, the one selled with TONE and CH9 freq shifters and SWR Cal acting as Power knob) which had the polarity protection diode shorted (a reversed polarity in a car , you know). I didn't mattered what version was, but I afair it was PC010. It had three ics on PLL stage, placed in "U" shape. One of the traces were cut and wired to one of the front switches, etc.

What I was asking for is the exactly model with that different bleep, that reminds in some way to Hy Gain V one but shorter. It seems to be the first prod of the 360FM model , as It was one of the first I operated back on 1984. Then there were some more here in Spain. Past some years, only the "Constant tone" bleep model were found.

(BTW; I will upload a pic (mobile, sorry) from that SS360FM I've fixed. I can asure it is the most pristine and mint rig I've ever seen. That machine should be used for txing no more than 1 hour since 1986, case is flawless, mic is as new, even no dust or traces on it.)

So I understand the "Hy Gain bird bleep type" model should have the PC010 board too.
