Ok, anyone playin with cb's has either needed or trashed their power supply with to big a radio... like me...

all my 12v batteries took a dump too, and my wife has my hobby money down to a trickle.

I need power... hey, did I just find that old dx 33 in the garage... not much good even for a boat anchor, still works though... and the yellow wire and black wire on a drive plug will give you 12vdc at about 12 amps, better than most cheap cb power supplies, in fact a junk 486 is bound to be free wherever you find it and the owner will be happy to see it go.

I have my 486 dx33 powering a cobra 29 and my mobile tester at the moment and no fuzz like my battery charger gives me... clean receive

I already took the chance, and its DC power. I simply went to the connectors with the case of the pc open and hooked into the Yellow/Black and turned on the pc... heh, i dont care if win 3.1 likes it or not

Switch mode power supplies are quite good for all manner of things. Lightweight and cheap to buy.
They usually operate around 22 - 30 kHz switching frequency so the hash is way above the audio spectrum that anyone can hear.

already built several here, one even from an e machine to power my mobile tester at two amps. others range from seven to eleven amps so far from at and atx. not getting any static from them at all on my radios and have gotten alot of repairs made since.

on the AT power supply you follow the same instructions and switch the heavy power wire inside. on the atx i just connect the inner wires and use the back switch.
