Hi all,
I have a S9 that was working great (45-50 watts with a 10 watt key) The radio is the newer unit with mosfets.
I hooked it up to a brand new 25 amp power supply. I was talking on it when out of the blue the power supply took a dump...(went to 30 volts output) The radio is still working OK but now the radio only will key 4-5 watts and swing to 20.
The radio sounds great but only 1/2 power?? I changed the two final mosfets..no help! (I did not change the driver as it still shows good gain and is not on the main 12v supply buss) was this a mistake?
The strange thing is the front meter still shows full power? i.e. it shows the same 10 watt key and 45 watt swing it showed before the 30 volt spike. All radios I have seen in the past have always showed power loss on the meter if a driver or final dies.
? should I change the driver? Can there be a defective part..capacitor,coil,ect. after the metering circuit pickoff point not allowing full power to the antenna?
I am just not up to speed on the mosfets yet!
Anyone out there that knows the S9 inside out and backwards?
Thanks guys!

Magnum S9 only half power?
Re: Magnum S9 only half power?
You do not say which ones of the S9 it is, but if its the first one with MOSFETs PA stage then check out caps C158, C166, C165, C211, and C417.
Rick.
