new magnum s-980 50 WATTS???

i got new mag s-980 it works good but only will put out about 55 watts,i have checked power with the dosy 4001p & my radio shack digital meters & they both have about the same output.when i took it to local shop i told him to put the channels & a alingment on it.i think it will do more wattage or is this about what they get out on A.M.,then get 80 on SSB?any info would be helpfull.i would just like to know if my tech is screwing me,he's not cheap,nice or on time.but he does good work i think? It should be doing more than 55 on AM, 15-20 watts more at least. Remember that a shop will tune the radio on a dummy load which represents a perfect 50 ohm load and a 1:1 swr, so there is always going to be some difference, but that does seem excessive. Are you sure that your not dropping voltage on transmit?

i checked voltage and its not dropping any,if i get some time tonite i might check to see if the power is turned up.maybe i can get some more out of it.thanks for the reply.

found out it had a bad final,its in the shop as we speak.will be putting the fire in the wire soon.getting off the 2980 and back on the s-980.thanx guys for the help.TNT-13 & A HALF
