hi,during cold weather operation our galaxy 88 can be as much as 3kc off freq.as it warms up it creeps back toward center slot.but this is alot of drift.more than any galaxy should have .
what to do?change out the crystal??resolder the crystal as close to the board as possible??let me know your thoughts and ideas befor i proceed.thanks.

i would 1st redo the solder joints in pll, vco sections & the regulator on the side.

Changing crystals won't make any difference, it's the cold weather that's causing the problem.
How far is it.
Twice it's length from halfway.

changed out the 10.240 crystal this morning .resoldered the rest of the crystals .gonna put it back in the cold truck and see what happens.i only have trouble when the radios cold .all galaxies drift a little but this was excessive.updates later.

I have a SS158 EDX that does the same thing,I have found that some of the caps around the tuning cans are very sensitive to temperature change hot or cold very common for these radios and looks like not they are not of very good quality.
