Trying to MOD a cobra 148 GTL. Need help..

I'm new at this forum and please parden
of any wrong posting.
Well I have not use a COBRA 148 GTL for the last 10 years.
Here it is how I got out it.
I drove a Yellow cab for 4 years in New York City.
and whenI sold the cab did not use a CB radio anymore.
During those four years MY CB radio 148 GTL
was Retuned or hacked, or MOD. please use
your own term. What this means !!!!!
The tech we knew he will add a new crystal
(I guess to use different frquency) I do not know.....
and I remember he would resolder different spot and jump 2 soldering points.
with this MOD we were able to use different frequency on a
lower side band and we were able to treansmit a little stronger
is anybody here in this forum from new york city.
we were able to transmit from the city out the Long Island.
and better in the evening.. some guy's would say they were able to talk
to someone in Mexico in the evenings and rainy days.
How true that was I do not know.....
Now that I live in FLORIDA and I like to MOD this Cobra 148 GTL
that I have not purchase YET..
just in case the new cobra have change the radio in there boards.. I do not know if I have get on old one to get
this job done...
Can anybody advise with images or diagrams and How to...
and also and very important.... the boooster we would use at that time.
does anybody have a link were I can get them
there name use to be Hurricane or tornado...
