Galaxy 949
i just bought a galaxy 949. went to have it turned up and was told it would only push a max of 25 watts. Started looking around on the sight and noticed the RF amp part that was noted for improvment was a 2SB817. i also seen that the stock devise was a 2sb754. well i just looked in side of mine and it has a 2SB827 which is a 80w now am i wrong in thinking that this radio should push more than 25w?? still new at this guys so please bear with me

Ok figured out my blonde moment
But now i just have more questions.. How do i run dual finals? i have bought the part for the RF amp the 2sc ah i dont remember but i got it. Now i need to know which would be the best finals to put in it and how dual it. Also like i said i am doing all this myself and i am new. . only one way to learn and thats to blow something up and i am sure thats what i will end up doing, but i bought a barjan watt/swr meter not the best but all i had was 30 dollars si it had to do.. how do i use it to peak my radio? i have a freq counter on order so i can take care of that. Hope you guys dont think im stoopid just tired of paying an arm and a leg and these truck stop CB shops and not being satisfied or being lied to. Went to one is the petro in carilse, pa $50 for a super tune and peek and was told it was doing 60w then went to another shop in idaho and it was doing 32w which isnt bad but still i paid 50 and was told it was doing 60w. not the first time i have been ripped. Luckly i know a bit about electronic done all the wiring in my car and i have a little help friends work at a tech shop
well hope i can get some help, thanks

Watt readings vary by make and type of meter. Also that could of been 32 watts on a dosy or one like it and the 60 watts could of been from a bird 43p meter. dosy says its a peak meter but it realy isnt. I would trust the $600 bird wich is industry standard before i would trust anything else. on my dosy i get 30 watts on it and my peak meter on my bird will show 50-60 watts pep. To measure am you realy have to have a peak meter. I like to measure both at my shop just incase of this type of thing. Bird is what all the real radio techs use by wich i mean people that work for motorolla and pretty much any other radio manufacturer. I know they are expensive but you get what you pay for. I own one of each. So i would say you didnt get ripped off it is just a difference in meter readings. If that is not the case then i would say your right because i know there is probable some dishonest shops out there that like to make you think they have a magic wand.

I have an update on the upgrade to the 2sb817. I used one the other day without looking into it and well it has lower gain than that of the 754 and the 827. So stick with the 827 it has higher hfe gain than the 817. Now i have to unload these things to somebody who needs them. I guess that is the school of hard knocks do research before you jump on the idiot wagon.
If you look on cbtricks website you will see what i mean.
Basically with the lower gain you get less modulation to the finals resulting in lower peak power.
