Galaxy 55V

Post by RedEye »

I have a galaxy 55V that was modded for the 3 final upgrade by ekl (2050) upgrade...

The radio got to me after the upgrade and did not TX, I looked over the tech sheet, all was done properly and well done no solder screw ups or blobs.

I chose to undo the mod, placing everything back to stock 2166 and 1969. the radio now TX's but only at a max of 3-4 watts.... :(

everything else is fine, RX Freq dead on..... Any ideas where to look?

On another note, Special Thanks to Rick as he went way past the general help to get me on the right track with a troubled 148. Rick is a valuble asset to this board and to cb'ers everywhere. Hope you make a stop in Florida when you hit the states Rick, I owe you several pints!!!!!!

Ok, double checked everything, The Unnamed capacitor jumping between The driver and final was located wrong, fixed it and redid the single final mod, radio is great with a 45+watts swing.

If you had some understand of basic electronics like how to read schematic diagram read do voltages checks and identify components you would have not need to ask the question in the first place. It is very hard to help people who have know basic understanding in the first place.

Thanks for the reply:
First off your response, especially as someone with very few posts and none helping someone shows your intelegence and good hearted nature to the Ham/CB world...

Second, I do know electronics, but I am not a god to the electron, if I knew it all I wouldn't be here asking for help on an issue someone else might have had and can share thier knowlege.

"The Unnamed capacitor jumping between The driver and final was located wrong"

If you are refering to this statement as my lack of knowledge, so be it... Take a look at the PCB layout of a Galaxy 55V Rev B and you will see a 560pf cap lad across the top of the PCB , not mounted in a solder hole. I refered to this item, and apparently those with knowledge of this PCB knew what I was talking about, or else they may have come back with a simpleton statement such as yours.

Try not to embarrass yourself on a international website of your peers by insulting someone else.

This board has been and will be a great source of help and understanding of the hobby we all enjoy.... You sir, should take up shuffleboard...

This board is to get and receive help on issues with Ham/CB not for bashing someone looking for help...

Good Day.....

James, if you have come here to criticise and slag of people, then I will ban you, as you will not be welcome here, this is a place for people to assist each other, I didn't see you chiming in and telling him what the problem was, so you obviously do not know what is wrong either...

If you want to contribute and assist others (or at least moderate yourself), you are more than welcome to stay.

I will be watching.
