Hey there,

I've had several of these in the past, as far as I'm aware of, there really isn't a "mod" that you perform to get it to TX on AM, it's more of being really good at loading/tuning it for a small carrier. It's hard to get a 1011 model Siltronix to TX on AM and sound clean, although it is possible with a lot of patience and a steady hand on the load/tune/preselect, as well as adjusting the carrier.

That being said, I would not recommend you attempt to run a 1011 Siltronix on AM, as it will cook the PA tube, #8950 and the driver, #6GK6.

Running a carrier for AM requires that you apply constant current to the PA section of the radio, and it's very easy to overload the PA tube and the driver (most of the damage is done while loading/tuning). Applying constant current to these tubes shortens tube life.

If you can get a 3-4 watt carrier on AM and do it while applying 50Ma current or less to the PA tube, you're doing quite well.

These radios are better saved for SSB, since the tubes are not put into a continuous duty cycle on SSB (i.e. carrier). Hope this info helps!
