maxxon MCB 30

Post by sheddy »

Hi. Have installed this unit in my vehicle. I have a Dick Smith antenna mounted on a right angle bracket front gaurd. The aerial base is 50mm above the bonnet. The unit powers up ok and has squelch volume etc. I can hear hissing when other cb's are transmitting but no words and can't transmit succesfully. where do I start and is there anyone in East waikato who has the tech skill to help me sort it. Initially I thought that AM CB was a gonner, but hear the truckies still use it a lot. I also have a UHF cb that works ok mounted on the other gaurd. Amos electronics used to be good by the Hospital in Hamilton, don't know who does this now. Thanks

It is possible that the radio is not on NZ frequencies, truckies use CH11.

You need to get a SWR meter and check your SWR, this will also confirm if the radio is putting out any power, if it is putting out power, and you still cant get in touch with anyone, then there is a good chance that the radio may not be on NZ frequencies, more likely the AU (US, FCC) frequencies instead.

It does say FCC on the unit so it may be I was sold a Lemon. Obviously ops on another frequency than NZ CB. Will it be as simple as that. probably easier to get another unit than mess around with it.
