excalibur ssb no transmit audio

Post by smokinjoe »

I have a excalibur ssb radio board #srt-3600-10 radio receives good but on transmit i only have a carrier of 4 watts with no audio output. I replaced tr43,tr44,tr49,tr50tr51 also ic8 without any improvement's i used an old speaker and grounded it and touched positive side to collectors on transistors i replaced and hear audio through speaker on all transistors. Don't know a lot about working on radio's or if it means anything by having audio on center leads of transistors. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I have audio now output power is low keying 2watts swings to about 4watts?

excalibur ssb-no tx audio

hello, have you checked c166,this is your audio coupling capacitor.it is an 800 pf and is located between the finals and the loading coil.if bad replace it with a 820 pf silver mica 500 volt capacitor.also is this a single or double finaled radio.if it is a double final, one final could be bad, that also cause low output.to determine which is bad just lift the collector of each final one at a time .also if the radio was accidently hooked up backwards,id check c190,it is a 100 mfd,16 volt capacitor.also check r1 and r6 for shorts or opens....hope this helps....ramblingman

Thanks for the help ramblingman checked every thing that you listed and all checked good with no change in output. Talked on radio today and they said it sounded good but had a faint squeal with audio. But radio still only puts out about 4 watts and only shows 50% modulation on the meter. Also noticed that tr50 is getting hot quick so i checked voltage on tr50 and tr51 and the voltages were good. Also this is the single final radio with 2sc2166 driver and 2sc1969 final. sorry it took so long to reply back. Thanks again.
