Cobra 29 Cooked D-8 no transmitt

Post by StrightClaw »

I did the 2030 mod to a friends radio it worked fine when I gave it to him. It doesn't now. I opened it up and it had cooked D-8 I replaced TR 16 , 15, 14 IC3 and D-8 I didn't have a new companion part for the 2030 so that wasn't replaced.Anyhow as soon as
I keyed the mic it cooked D-8 again. I helped him install a new radio yesterday and he had a direct short to ground with his antenna. We repaired that and hes good to go now.Anyone have any ideas on whats going on with the 29 radio?

You have a short in the PA stage. Try removing TR14 and TR15, key up, and see if D8 goes short, if not it is most likely that TR14 his gone short.
