key up and turn off truck

I just installed a texas star 500 with a general lee and wilson 2000 when I roll the variable knob wide open and key up the truck shuts down (2008 peterbilt) it throws red lights that say stopengine and the engine dies 3 seconds after I turn off the box the truck is fine like there were never any issues The box is powered with 6ga wire the ground the samethe antenna is mounted on the passenger mirror as long as I stay at half power or less it does ok but when I want all the power I have problems

Sounds like you're getting some nasty RF bleedout from the radio/amp and it's getting into your truck's engine computer or ignition system.

Make sure your coax is in good shape (no cuts or kinks), make sure your coax ends are soldered on well too. Make sure coax ends are screwed on tightly on all devices.

Ground, ground, ground! Ground everything, the more things you ground, the less chance of RF bleedout. Make sure that your antenna is grounded properly, if you're not sure it's grounded well enough, run a wire from your mount and strap it to the frame. Same goes with the amplifier and radio as well, never hurts to run a ground strap from the radio/amp to the frame.

I ground-strapped my antenna/amp/radio in my car, and I can run 600W+ SSB in the driveway and not even put a line in my TV set in the garage. I run a President Jackson with a Texas Star DX500 (4 power) amp through a 102" steel whip.

rick is right. you can never have too much ground! doors are not known for their ground,i know , i have driven several petes. i found that if i used a "beehive" antenna mount and a long piece of oo welders cable that usually cured the stray rf. if you want to know how to hook it up, e-mail me and i will explain. i ran a custom made 1700 watt box without any problems. good luck.
