Silver faced President Jackson AGC problem

Heya peoples,

I have a silver faced President Jackson (5 band) board #PB042, that has an AGC overload problem with close SSB stations, causes the radio to chirp/garble/distort bad on the RX. I see on a site that a person can change R41, R43, and R47 to different values, and remove C31 altogether. Is this a legitimate mod, or something for the paper shredder? Any other mods that would help this problem? Thanks in advance!
