AM carrier on Cobra 146GTL while transmitting on SSB

Post by captron »

I have a Cobra 146GTL that has a weak AM carrier while in transmit on both USB & LSB. I have null-ed out as much of the AM carrier as I can by adjusting the AM Carrier Balance. I can not see this carrier on my Bird watt meter with a 10 watt slug in it (this is the lowest power HF element I have) but the cairrer can be heard by other stations and it effects the audio quality while transmitting on SSB. And listening stations can also understand me on AM while I am on SSB. The radio seems to work and sound fine in AM mode. Are there more procedures to completely eliminate the AM carrier while transmitting on SSB. Please Help! Thank You, Ron

If the SSB carrier is null then it must be getting in at the TR42 which where the AM is injected from TR25, so you could try removing R208 to see if this helps, also check TR24, 45 and 46. I have seen TR24 OS this will stop you from nulling the SSB carrier.
