magnum s-9 noise

I have a magnum s-9 that makes noise all the time I put in the cap for motorboating and that helped alot but still if i have all noise squelched out it still makes noise. also It gets very very hot? on am every one says the static is louder than I am and I'm about 1/2 mile from the other guy? The channel light is about only 3/4 as bright as the freq counter, looks real dumb. are these radios junk? or did I get a lemon?? I had a hard time spending that much on a radio now I did and I may have to go back to my $25 dx19 at least I was louder than the static.

Try unpluging the back light board (J201 on channel switch board) to see if this cures the fault, also ceck C194 and C195.
